Winter Blues

It has become clear that everyone in our house is ready for spring. Winter has become long and drawn out and all we really want is some sun. If you can help us out with this please do so. So far this year I have been thru 2 snowblowers, 1 shovel and 1 ice chipper. Enough on that.

Okay people once again if you haven't taken your Christmas lights done, at the very least, please unplug them. I am begging you.

I have added a couple pictures of Kelsen and I sledding. Raumi decided to watch and drink Starbucks. At least she bought us hot chocolate.

Raumi and I witnessed one of the oddest things 2 weeks ago in church. We had bad seats (Raumi should be banned from picking seats) but anyway we were sitting beside this mother and her two children. The two kids were probably 8 and 10 or somewhereaboutsthat (like my knew word?) Anyway I look over and WHAMMO....the MOTHER is texting.....yep texting. Now I am pretty sure Jesus didn't have texting when he was alive BUT I would think He would be against it. I was astonished, appalled. It got me thinking. What should I give up for Lent? Yep I have vowed before you today to give up TEXTING for Lent......in church. Wish me well and please pray for me to make this sacrifice.

Okay so last week so some odd unforeseen reason, Raumi decided to wash dished by hand. Kelsen was intrigued by this and decided it would be cool to help her. Following the guidelines of the "Husband of the Year" outline, I grabbed a dishtowel and decided to dry. We had a GREAT time. It was probably the funnest 15 minutes we have had in a long time. Just washing, drying and TALKING. In today's world, with cell phones, laptops, Tv's, texting, Facebook and all that other stuff, families simply don't spend enough "quality" time together. I have heard many a parent "blame" "technology" (yep I just went back to back with "" marks). Well I think the real culprit of family issues today is the DISHWASHER. If families did not have the ability to quickly throw there dishes in the dishwasher and walk away and would have to wash and dry them as a family, families would be stronger. This is great insight. I need to pat myself on the back. Ahhh that felt so good. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

Winter Olympics. We tune in, we tune out. But the one thing we all can agree on is that some of these athletes are CRAZY. I am not talking about Ski Jumping. I mean Ski Jumpers get to practice in big puffy foam. I am talking athletes who Ski Moguls. The "mogs" as I refer to them as, simply keep chiropractors in their fancy houses. My back, knees and hips needed to be iced down just from watching it. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.

Last week driving home from work, I spotted 3 Police SUV's pulling out of the McDonald's parking lot and was quite surprised. Not surprised that they were pulling out of the McDonald's parking lot but the fact that the vehicles were AMTRAK Police. Did you know that Amtrak has its own police? What the hell do they do. Pull over trains? I mean seriously I could figure out for the life of me what these people do and what jurisdiction they cover. So I researched. This is what I found. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.

I have two ideas for IPhone applications.

1. Radar Gun-you can see how fast your buddy is going as he speeds around you or you can see how fast your wife can throw a tennis ball. Your choice. Tell me you wouldn't buy this application for your phone.

2. Radar Jammer-As an application on your phone, you simply load the application and set the phone on your dash. Looks like a phone, feels like a phone but with the application on, it JAMS every radar gun around. No more speeding tickets for you.

Pre-school.....Hell no, I wont go!

Kelsen recently embarked on a new chapter in his life....PRE-SCHOOL.

He was jacked, he was ready, he was excited....UNTIL he had to physically go! Then all hell broke loose. He was ubberly shy, very fearful and simply didn't want to go. And that was day 1. He made it thru and admitted it was fine. Then came day 2. As we were getting ready, he took his brand new Marvel Comic backpack off the hook, I was thinking "cool, he is ready to roll". I couldnt have been more wrong. He took his backpack and chucked it downstairs and stated "I am not going to Pre-school". Power prevailed and he went, and again he liked it. Lord only knows what next week will bring. Ma and Pa Kudrna like it because they get to pick him up once a week and take him to their house and feed him sugars and sweets until I get there.

For you loyal followers, a couple weeks ago I mentioned an idea of how it would be cool if there is a website that listed what toys are "current" in kids meals at fast food joints. Well this week at Burger King they have a SUPERMAN action figure. It is awesome and basically worth the 4 dollar meal all by itself. Seriously someone step up and start this site. I will be your # 1 follower.

This is Kelsen's favorite spot. About 2 feet from the TV with all his snacks and toys strewed about.

An old photo circa 1986 of the NE-Regent Babe Ruth Team. How many of these people can you name?

Couple more random thoughts:

* The Vikings are looking at a lottery scratch-off ticket to generate revenue for a new stadium. People have been talking about this for like 5 years already. The cost of the stadium has went up millions of dollars since then. Whats wrong with Minnesota people? Come on MAN!

* If you get some time look back and google like 1992 Vikings highlights and watch closely when they scan the crowd. NOBODY is wearing replica jerseys. TODAY if you go to the game you feel like an outkast if you ARE NOT wearing a replica jersey. Who started this fad and when did it really take off. I WANT ANSWERS!

A quick photo of lunch prior to Kelsens 1st dat of Pre-school.

It was game day at our house last Sunday. Kelsen won both Sequence and Trouble.

For some reason, one night after work last week, Kelsen decided he wanted to lay down (which is a total oddity), but not only did he want to lay down, he wanted to do it in the middle of the kitchen. He wasn't to impressed when I snapped a photo:

Pure Randomness

Several Thoughts for this final Friday in January.

A. Kelsen and I again built a snowman. A Viking snowman. Similar to the one we built LAST week prior to the NFC Divisional game, we again braved the spring like weather and built a Monster NFC Championship Snowman. It was EPIC, but it didn't help. Fun with the boy nonetheless, it again gained media attention on multiple levels.

B. TOOTHPASTE-I have been thinking alot about this lately, going as far to conduct a couple informal polls. It seems that the majority of people prefer to stick with one brand/flavor of toothpaste for months, heck even years. (I think Ma and Pa Kudrna have some much invested in Pepsodent that they will retire soon. I come from the school that each time you frequent Target or Walmart for your next tube of toothpaste you try a new brand/flavor. Try it, see if you like the results and report back to me. Speaking of toothpaste, there is no finer feeling than squeezing the first paste out of a fresh tube. I am a simple man.

C. Kelsen likes self-portraits. Thank goodness for the "delete" feature on digital cameras. Below is a shot of some of his better work.

D. The days and nights are getting longer. This my friends can only mean one thing.

E. Awkwardness. I am sure many of you have pulled up to a stop light on your commute home from work. Low and behold a co-worker pulls up in the lane next to you. Now from my experience even your best work buddy pulling up to you creates an uncomfortable situation. I am guilty of all the tactics. 1. Pull ahead or behind enough hoping the co-worker wont see you. 2. Totally ignore the person like you didn't see them. 3. Whip out your cellie and act as if you are talking to Gov. Hoeven. 4. Do the right thing, give a quick glance and wave. Is it just me or am I right on this?

Ranger Christmas tonight baby!

Did that Happen....AGAIN?

I am in disbelief. I don't understand. I am speechless.

Another NFC Championship game down the drain. Another heartache. Keeping all things in perspective, it's just a game. I know this. Doesn't matter. I am passionate. Extremely passionate. If you know me well you understand. I digress.

Onto some other life things, that may or may not be more important.

Couple thoughts on Barnes and Noble.

There is no better way to kill an afternoon that to wander around in Barnes and Noble. Last week, to celebrate MKL Jr. day, I went to B and N to do some historical research. As I walked around from section to section I quickly came to realize that Barnes and Noble is eerily similiar to surfing the internet. Hear me out. You go to the humor section, look at a few books, one of those books triggers another thought and boom before you know it your in the teen section researching hairstyles.

Speaking of Barnes and Noble. I am not sure if every B and N has a train table in their kids section but the Bismarck one does. With that in mind it is cleverly clear in Kelsens brain that the name of the stores is TRAINS and Noble. I like it. Let's go with it. Let's pack up the car and go spend the afternoon at TRAINS and Noble.

IT'S ON! Last week a challenge was thrown down. It appears that my sister is certain that her spaghetti is better than mine. I tend to beleive that MY spaghetti is better. So soon enough we will be making 2 giant batches of spaghetti for the SPAGHETTI OFF. Bring your own milk and garlic toast.

Facebook, My Space? How about SPACEBOOK? Combo of them both. Just an idea. Well to be honest it was a freudian slip but we might be onto something, right Shelby?

One last thought. My dad gets Sports Illustrated. Good magazine but I dont care for their format. Why do they break down LAST WEEKS game. With the internet and 24 hour sports stations, we as consumers, see enought of the highlights and breakdowns that we dont need more 1 week after the event. SI should go to more human interest stuff, kinda like ESPN the Mag. (this is not my original thought but I am taking credit for it)

1st Warning

Let this blog entry serve as the FIRST Warning for all of those that are still illuminating the sky each and every night with their Christmas displays. Generally, in the Christian sense, Epihany was the last day for displays. That people was last Sunday. Just some slight FYI for you.

Not sure what 2010 has brought you so far this year, but as far as us it brought us some bugs, as in some flu bugs. Kudos to ma and pa Kudrna, who watched Kelsen, although he got sick, last Friday while Raumi and I attended the St. A's Epihany party. As always it was good times and for what its worth, the ER room had the best jello shots.

Other than that we have not been doing much at all. Oh yeah I guess yesterday Kelsen and I rocked a VIKINGS Snowman. It serves multiple purposes. First and foremost it displays how serious we are in our house about the Vikings. Secondly, it displays how serious we are in our house about the Vikings. And Lastly, it displays how serious we are in our house about the Vikings.

After completion of the VIKINGS snowman, Kelsen and I basked in the glory as a multitude of cars drove by, beeping, honking and stopping to comment. Of course there are always HATERS in this world and one in particular decided to be clever. This is what we woke up to on Thursday morning. The VIKINGS snowman turned into a Cowboys snowman. But not for long. He was converted back to VIKINGS prior to the morning rush on Valley Drive.

One last Viking theme. AKA THE Chalice:

That's right, one lonely Saturday Raumi coherced me into going to Hobby Lobby. In my infinite wisdom I had a vision. It is only used When and During the playoffs. This thing has special powers. Trust me.

Enjoy the weekend.

SKOL!
